上海國際醫(yī)學園區(qū)以先進醫(yī)療器械制造業(yè)和現(xiàn)代醫(yī)療服務業(yè)為核心并涉足醫(yī)藥研發(fā)、銷售和生物醫(yī)藥服務外包等領域，以打造高科技醫(yī)療器械及生物醫(yī)藥產(chǎn)業(yè)基地和高端醫(yī)療服務平臺為目標，力爭建成一座環(huán)境優(yōu)美、科技領先、生態(tài)和諧的現(xiàn)代化醫(yī)學科學城。整個園區(qū)占地11.8平方公里，其中公共綠地212公頃（2.12平方公里）。根據(jù)兩大核心產(chǎn)業(yè)定位，融合現(xiàn)代的規(guī)劃理念，科學地將上海國際醫(yī)學園區(qū)分為六個主要功能區(qū)，包括：醫(yī)療器械及生物醫(yī)藥產(chǎn)業(yè)區(qū)、醫(yī)學研發(fā)區(qū)、國際醫(yī)院區(qū)、國際康復區(qū)、醫(yī)學院校區(qū)和國際商務區(qū)。

各個功能區(qū)形成了功能互補、資源共享的有機整體。并和諧地構(gòu)筑起了醫(yī)療器械及生物醫(yī)藥和現(xiàn)代醫(yī)療服務兩條完整的產(chǎn)業(yè)鏈。自2005年園區(qū)開發(fā)建設正式啟動至今，園區(qū)始終秉承著高起點、高標準的基礎設施和服務平臺建設，迅速吸引了包括全球醫(yī)療設備三巨頭之一西門子醫(yī)療亞洲科技園，德爾格（醫(yī)療）上海有限公司，上海先聲藥業(yè)有限公司，上海華誼生物技術(shù)有限公司，上海常隆生命醫(yī)學科技有限公司等數(shù)十家醫(yī)療器械及醫(yī)藥企業(yè)。隨著產(chǎn)業(yè)能級的提升，園區(qū)越來越注重現(xiàn)代服務業(yè)的配套建設，現(xiàn)已被列為市生產(chǎn)性服務業(yè)示范功能區(qū)之一。園區(qū)專辟了醫(yī)谷商務園、留學生創(chuàng)業(yè)園、產(chǎn)學研基地等項目，為致力于醫(yī)學相關產(chǎn)業(yè)的歸國人士及中小企業(yè)創(chuàng)業(yè)者創(chuàng)造了施展才華的空間和舞臺。而在現(xiàn)代醫(yī)療服務產(chǎn)業(yè)方面，作為上海“十一五”重點工程項目的上海質(zhì)子重離子治療中心已開工建設，此外中德友好醫(yī)院、日本德泰口腔醫(yī)院等也相繼入駐。

Shanghai International Medical Zone (SIMZ) is a new-concept medical scientific zone under the support of National Ministry of Health (MOH) and ratification of Shanghai Municipal Government. It has become a tower of strength to support Shanghai in becoming the medical center of Asia.

SIMZ has two core industries – advanced medical device manufacturing and modern medical service industry, surrounding which, fields like pharmaceuticals R&D, sales as well as CRO have made rapid growth. SIMZ targets to become an environment-friendly, technology leading, and ecologically harmonious modern medical city that delivers high-end healthcare services and attracts medical devices and bio-medicine businesses with cutting-edge technologies. It covers an area of 11.8 km2, among which, 2.12 km2 are public green field. Centering two core industries, it has into six functional areas: the International Hospital Center, the Industrial Area for Medical Devices and Biomedicine, the International Medical Campus, the Clinical/Medical Research Park, the International Rehabilitation Center, and the International Business Center.
